Who is Shelly Marie Redmond?

shally-with-daughter

Shelly with her daughter Mireille

While girls her age were playing with dolls, Shelly was busy in the family garden, raising rabbits, and yes, peeling lots and lots of crawfish. Having won her first cooking contest at the age of 12, Shelly Marie Redmond, MS, RD, LDN, lives for the kitchen. She believes she was given the gift of cooking by her 2 grandmothers – Edna and Louise. Edna (her father’s mother) was a true Cajun, tough yet loveable, who trolled shrimp, and had a house that smelled of gumbo, white beans and rice, and oyster dressing. Bath and Body Works could have easily made a candle called ‘Gumbo’ from Edna’s house. Louise (her mother’s mother whom Shelly bares a striking resemblance), while an amazing cook, was more of a baker, known for the best fudge and cake in Houma, Louisiana. Her candle would have simply been called ‘Divinity Fudge.’

It was natural Shelly ‘majored’ in food, and she did just that! Graduated from both Nicholls State University and Louisiana Tech University, Shelly is a registered dietitian, TV personality, and the author of two books – ‘Skinny Louisiana… In the Kitchen‘ and ‘Eat Well and Be Fabulous: A Guide for the Modern Day Woman‘. She is a partner in Eberhardt Physical Therapy in Shreveport, LA where she currently counsels patients on weight loss, meal planning, diabetes, family nutrition, food allergies, and wellness.

Shelly can currently be seen bi-monthly as the ‘Healthy Eating Expert’ on both KTAL News 6, an NBC Affiliate Station and Fox 33 Good Day. You may think she prepares boring, tasteless snacks and vegetable trays on her segment, think again. With topics such as Tailgating Finds, a ‘Frozen’ Party, and ‘Ugly Christmas Sweater Party Treats,’ Shelly combines fun and tasty foods all with a ‘skinny’ twist.

Shelly is a highly sought after media source for trusted nutrition and lifestyle information. After her successful stint as a media spokesperson for the Louisiana Dietetic Association, she was appointed to the Team Leader position for the Media Team of the Louisiana Dietetic Association. For 2 years, Shelly was the recognized nutrition expert on Shreveport’s CBS-affiliate station KSLA News 12 weekly health segment ‘Food in Five’. She has completed countless interviews for ABC, CBS, and NBC affiliate stations on nutrition and lifestyle information. In addition to television interviews, Shelly has been seen in print, including Women’s Health, Buzz Feed, Shape, SB Magazine, Cosmopolitan Magazine, FoxBusiness.com, Today’s Diet and Nutrition Magazine, Shreveport Times, The Forum News and City Lights Magazine.

In her work with food companies, Shelly has consulted with Welch’s and worked as a media spokesperson with California Pistachios, California Raisins, Frito, and the Southeast United Dairy Association. In 2015, Shelly filmed a web commercial for the Southeast United Dairy Association featuring her Skinny Shrimp Bread recipe.

As a registered dietitian in private practice, Shelly has consulted on various nutrition and medical issues including weight loss, pregnancy nutrition, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and wellness. For seven years, Shelly was an outpatient dietitian at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center.

Shelly earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nutrition and dietetics, and is a Registered Dietitian (RD). Shelly has earned her certification in Adult Weight Management offered through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

You will find her embracing her Cajun roots in her kitchen while preparing simple and tasteful Louisiana style dishes in her kitchen, for her ‘Yankee’ husband, daughter, son, and 2 cats, Gizmo and Theodore Roosevelt.
